The Tsukasaka Family

“Food is extremely expensive and its ability to provide adequate nutrition is at stake. Food stamps could be their only hope. This legislation is essential to alleviate their suffering and ensure that their children have at least one decent meal a day.”

Transcript:

Hello everyone. Another story we want to share is the heartbreaking story that highlights the urgent need to pass this legislation to provide support to families who have requested political asylum in our country like the family of Tsukasaka from Peru. Their story is a constant fight for survival. With 3 children, 13, 7, and 5, the working parents of the Tsukasaka family are on the verge of being overwhelmed. Their struggle to keep their family alive and free from danger and the threats they were constantly receiving was the reason why they made the difficult decision to have to leave their beautiful country. But upon arriving in the US, they soon realized that their struggles were not ending here. The lack of resources has left them homeless on one occasion, in the middle of the night, in the middle of winter.

Their only option was half of a room that was shared with another family at the cost of 750 a month. The household finances have put this family relentlessly in pressure of providing adequate food for their children on a daily struggle. Food is extremely expensive and its ability to provide adequate nutrition is at stake. Food stamps could be their only hope. This legislation is essential to alleviate their suffering and ensure that their children have at least one decent meal a day. We respectfully request approval of this regulation to change the destiny of families like that of the Tsukasaka. Thank you.
